Lesson 1

 CONGAS 1

In this lesson you will learn about the cuban  conga rhythm called “tumbao”. We will take a look at all the diffrent sounds that makes the rhythm. And you will learn how to sing the rhythm.

Assignment 1: Sing the pattern slow and fast.

Assignment 2: Recreate the slow cha cha cha tumbao using the samples and make one own variation  

Lesson 2

 CONGAS 2

In this lesson you will learn more conga variations and patterns on 3 congas. And you will learn some fill’s.

Assignment: Recreate the conga pattern as shown in the lesson. 

Make 1 variation using 2 conga’s and 1 variation using 3 congas.

Lesson 3

 BONGO!

In this lesson we will take a look at the bongodrums. You will learn about the basic cuban rhythm called “Martillo” and how to create your own rhythms.

Assignment: Recreate the "Martillo" rhythm as shown in the lesson and make one own variation

Lesson 4

TIMBALES!

Here you will get to know the timbales. You will learn about the cascara, clave, and diffrent cowbell patterns.

Assignment: 1. Recreate the patterns in your own track 2. turn the patterns around, using the clave principle.

Lesson 5

SHAKERS!

In this lesson we will teach you about: Shakers, Guiro, Maracas ,Caxixis, Checere, Cabassa and the Tamburine.

Assignment: Create a track using the shakers showen in this lesson (Shakers, Guiro, Maracas ,Caxixis, Checere, Cabassa and the Tamburine)

Lesson 6

BRAZILIAN PERCUSSION!

In this lesson we will take a look at some basic brazillian instruments: the Surdo, Tamburim, agogobell and the triangle.

Assignment: create a samba rhythm using all the instruments shown in the lesson. 

Lesson 7

SOUND EFFECTS!

In this lesson you will learn about percussion instrument’s that can be used as a rhythm instrument and as a sound effect.

Assignment: Use the instruments to color your own song.

Lesson 8

CHA CHA CHA AND BOOGALOO!

In this lesson we will create a cha cha cha and a boogaloo pattern using the congas, guiro, timbales, drums, tamburine and maracas.

Assignment: Recreate the cha cha cha and a boogaloo patterns as shown in the lesson. use the congas, guiro, timbales, drums, tamburine and maracas

make your own variation of the patterns.

Lesson 9

SALSA!

In this lesson we will take a look at a basic salsa rhythm. We will use the congas, bongo’s ,maracas, guiro, clave, and the timbales. You will also learn about the importance of the clave.

Assignment: Use the samples to re-create a Salsa track with multiple layers of percussion, create your own variation using the the congas, bongo’s ,maracas, guiro, clave, and the timbales.

Lesson 10

PERCUSSION IN MODERN POPMUSIC!

Now we will talk about how to use percussion instr.and patterns in modern popmusic. And you will learn about the ”on the beat and off the beat” patterns. You will also get some tip’s about what kind of effect percussion can have on your track.

Assignment: Take one of your tracks and try different combination’s with the loops and and see how it affects the blending of your production.
